SketchUp  & Tinkercad Tutorials

Peterbot and I have been acquaintances for well over a year now and I've been teaching 3D printing to children and teens for equally as long. When I interviewed for my current job, I was told that I would be taking over a program called, FUSE, a program that teaches STEM related activities--3D printing being one of them. Prior to starting at Evanston Public Library, I had no experience with 3D printing or even knew what STEM stood for. Today, I'm all about 3D printing and STEM programs and love teaching 3D design to anyone who asks.

I took it upon myself to learn SketchUp and it took a good while for me to get the hang of it. I'm no expert but I've learned enough to answer most teen's questions and guide them through making their designs or problem-solving what's wrong with their object. I've also started to create tutorials for SketchUp because I've discovered that there just aren't that many out there--none that are teen friendly anyway.

Please download and print these tutorials to use as you need.

In-Person 3D SketchUp and Tinkercad Tutorial Visits

Are you a educator in the Evanston/Chicago area? If so, I can come to you! Sometimes learning SketchUp and Tinkercad from a real person is easier than slugging through on your own. I have taught Tinkercad and SketchUp in a variety of classrooms ranging from 3rd grade to 12th grade (even to teachers!). I have a range of availability during the week, but am always available on Friday.

My visits include an introduction and explanation about 3D printing--it's uses, how it works, etc. (with examples from my work's 3D printer), a demo of Tinkercad and/or SketchUp and work time for messing with the software and general questions. If you're interested in learning how to design a particular object, say a bridge, we work through designing it together. All handouts will be included.

If you're interested in a scheduling a session, please contact me.
